Curriculum from ground-up

Many Sunday Islamic schools do not have a curriculum—or they cannot find good textbooks to accompany the curriculum. Without a meaningful curriculum, objective of a successful teaching is lost.
Many academics voiced their opinions about the urgent need for a good curriculum. After years of research and field work, Weekend Learning Publishers developed a comprehensive Islamic Studies curriculum.
The curriculum includes topics based on the Qur’an, Hadith, rasuls, aqidah, fiqh, seerah, Islamic history, companions, ideology, ethics, applications, concepts and so forth. Many topics of contemporary interest and need.
All topics are based on broad Sunni principles and understanding. Lessons dealing with other faiths, madhhab and People of the Book are presented in a respectful manner.

Child friendly books

All the lessons are age-appropriate and designed for children growing up in the 21st century. The lessons in the first and second grades begin with a coloring page. This provides children a pleasing time to compose themselves before the lesson begins. The length of the text is appropriate to fully utilize a child’s attention span. In the lower level books, short classwork is designed to reinforce learning. They will enjoy completing a variety of classwork or homework.
Students in all grade levels will enjoy the simple, child-friendly language in the books. The sentences in the lessons and the treatment of the subjects are provided from a child’s perspective. The books do not simply disseminate knowledge, but make it relevant to students’ lives and their world. The lessons are tailored for 50 to 60-minute classes.

Homework: Simple yet effective

If homework is not administered, learning cannot be reinforced. Each lesson in the weekendLearning series is followed by a homework assignment. Most homework assignments can be finished within 10 to 15 minutes. Many of the homework assignments require students to consult an English translation of the Qur’an. The idea is to develop a habit of using the Qur’an as a ready reference guide. In the course of time, the Qur’an will become a companion in their lives.
Homework assignments are included in the textbook at the end of each lesson. The teacher can assign students to complete the homework in the textbook itself or provide them printed handouts. All the homework assignments are included on a CD-ROM, which can be purchased separately. The files on the CD-ROM are in PDF format as well as MS-Word format.
